Military Group brings down the house in America's Got Talent grand finale
Military singing sensations Voices of Service gave us an incredible grand finale this week on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, with a phenomenal performance of Leona Lewis’ “Footprints in the Sand.”
After their performance judge Howie Mandel was the first to offer sincere praise, “Just harkening back to what Simon said at the opening of the show when asked 'what tonight means', he talked about how acts that are not only inspired but inspire others … and that's what you do. You are changing lives. And when you look at the video shown in the beginning of the program, you can tell those are the people you’re moving. And it’s so important and so wonderful and so powerful, I hope America votes because we need you.”
Holding back tears judge Julianne Hough said artists are frequently asked, ‘What is life about?’ And whether it’s through art, or film or music she said, “To bring people joy and hope, that is what you guys do. So thank you for using your talent as an outlet for people to feel seen.”
Simon Cowell ended the judge's review by saying, “You define the words sincerity, decency, and talent. And I wouldn’t have said this weeks ago, but you've just given yourself a chance at winning this whole competition.”
On Tuesday's finale, the group performed a final time singing "Some Gave All" alongside songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus.
Although the 22-year-old blind and autistic singer/pianist Kodi Lee took the crown on the season finale, it was clear over the entire season that this military and veteran group has touched the hearts of millions of Americans, as they dedicated each performance to things like PTSD, mental health awareness and the sacrifices made by the men and women of the military.
The performances may have come to an end on AGT, but the music of Voices of Service will continue to change lives through their work with the Center for American Military Music Opportunity (CAMMO).
And we will always remember the heartfelt words of Sgt. Maj. Christal Rheams when she told ConnectingVets, “We are dedicated to working with veterans, active duty and anyone who suffers from PTSD and traumatic brain injuries … we will always use our music as therapy to help heal some wounds and their scars from the battlefield.”
